YEAR WRAPPED UP
LO4 and LO5 will finish the year top of the table and looking for finals births in 26 after wins last weekend. It has been one of our biggest years with great ups and downs. Recording 2 flags in March was a memorable highlight. We’ve added another team with the introduction of many new players. We also lost one of our best mates and players Junaid Khan. His infectious personality and love for cricket and his teammates won’t be forgotten as we continue to remember him each time we play.

An exciting 2026 is in store on and off the field, so make sure to get involved. Early in the new year we will be getting our new matting laid down for our nets.

Official training will resume on the 7th of January. Happy holidays!

STRELAN HAT-TRICK, SPONSORS MAKING RUNS
B2s trip to Gepps Cross started with celebrating the land we play on before the toss to celebrate First Nations round, and thanks to the Rams for gifting a hand painted cricket bat. A toss then proceeded as we finally won a toss, choosing to bowl. A fast outfield led to some strong partnerships from the Rams on a good deck. Consistent bowling from Oliver, Spencer and Westbrook all tied down ends to reduce scoring. Oliver took 4 scalps and Kanhere took his first wicket for the club. The Rams finished at 9/271 to set up and exciting chase next week!

The undefeated LO4s had a strong opening partnership with club sponsor Ghai posting his first half century for the year, well supported by Haider with 27. MOTM Lachie Strelan took the innings deep with a run a ball 42 setting the target at 180. From here the right arm seamer destroyed Uni, with Lachie taking 6/8 from just 4.2 including a hat-trick all being bowled, Securing a 101 run victory!

LO5 were asked to bat first by Blue Brigade and found themselves in early trouble at 16/3. Club sponsor Harsh then produced a composed and decisive innings, stabilising the side through key partnerships with Prasanth (33) and Shiva (29). Harsh’s excellent knock of 75 proved the backbone of the innings, guiding LO5 to a competitive total of 188.

With the ball, the team delivered a disciplined performance. Nandu and Subodh set the tone with tight opening spells, claiming two wickets each. They were well supported by Rupender and Vashishth, who maintained pressure and added a wicket apiece. Neeraj finished strongly, taking three crucial wickets to restrict the Blue Brigade, who ultimately fell 15 runs short of the target.

LO6 fielded first and were supported well by the seam bowling cartel. Finlay had 3, and 2 a piece to Schmidt, Livingston and Lindsay. The Pulteney batters were able to form enough contributions to set a target of 171. The chase was glued together by club sponsor Harris with 47 and Livingston with 40 giving the chase a pulse. Unfortunately the rest of the order couldn’t back them up as we fell short all out for 141.

Jono Goes Bang!
B2 resuming at 0/61 overnight, the game was quickly iced with the first century partnership of the season between Oliver and Barker, taking the score to 134 before a wicket fell. Jonno went on with it after the victory score was passed, compiling a patient 123 to again assert himself on the competition.

Hassan and Lachie Strelan steadied the innings with a 50 run partnership to ensure we wouldn’t have to bowl again, including Najam even hitting a 6, as the B2s passed 300 for the first time since last season’s grand final.

Choosing to bowl first, LO4s strong bowling line up got to work. A third wicket partnership for the alligators put them in a position to post a good score after tea but captain Rehman shuffled the bowlers to restrict the visitors to 111. Westbrook and Syed with 3 wickets each, and Mirza and the Skipper with 2.

The chase was held together by Haider scoring 39 and guiding the team to a strong victory. Naeem and Rehman contributed with teen scores while Mirza was with 17* shutout any nerves that came to finish the game.

LO5 batted first and got off to a strong start. Prasanth played a superb knock of 91, well supported by Neeraj with 46. After a small slowdown, Harsh’s handy 31 pushed us to a solid total of 211.

Flinders University also began well, reaching 70 before Nandu and Pramod broke through. At 99/2 after 20 overs the game was tight, but disciplined spells from Rupender and Pramod slowed their momentum. The rest of the bowling unit then took over—Neeraj (4 wickets), Subodh (2, now on a hat-trick!), and Vashishth wrapped up the innings for 161, sealing a 49-run victory.

Some sharp catches from Harsh, Vaidya, and Mitesh capped off a strong all-round team performance.

LO6 being sent into bat first crumbled early and were under pressure, only Pincin and Schmidt offered resistant and we were bowled out for 56. Schmidt added 3 wickets with the ball but with such a little total a loss was always inevitable.

LO4 sent in PAOC as they raced to 60 without loss before a superb spell from Zeyad (3/18) turned the game. Hamid Ali (3/13) and Askar Hussain Syed (2 wickets plus two run-outs) maintained the pressure, as PAOC collapsed to 139 all out in 38.5 overs.

In reply, the chase was steady, skipper Zeyad made 28, Askar added 34, and Farhan Naeem guided the side home with an unbeaten 34. Old Concordians reached 5/140 in the 31st over to secure a convincing victory.

Having to up the run rate on day 2 in the shortened game proved overwhelming, especially up against an ex-U18 Australian bowler, as we were dismissed cheaply with again only 3 batsmen scoring double figures.

Athelstone chased the total one wicket down, despite many chances flying that didn’t go to hand. Henry Beazley bowled consistently to claim 3 wickets, Daniel Barker caught amazingly, while Najam hit some pads and was rewarded by the Raggies’ umpires who were as equally interested in the post game imbibements as Old Concordians.

Being sent in LO4 made use of some handy sundries early to progress the scorer while the top order didn’t fire. Partnership between skipper Zeyad (33) Rehman and Hamid Ali (25) rebuilt the innings and late hitting from Lachlan Westbrooks late hitting 38* put the side in the dominant position at the break. A tidy bowling performance led by 3/13 from Westbrook and 3/28 from Babar saw a 97 run win making a great start to the season.

An interrupted pre-season was quickly apparent, as having been sent into bat we were in trouble early at 2/0 in the first over! While Najam steadied the innings, Lachlan Strelan in his debut game for the club batted aggressively with some big sixes, but a total of 122 was always looking a bit skinny, despite the long grass of the outfield.

Unley came out all guns blazing, ending the day at 4/71 with Vishnu getting his first wicket for the club, courtesy of a stumping by Casey. They say catches win matches, and unfortunately a series of missed chances let Unley off the hook on day 2, as they surpassed our total 5 wickets down. Oliver toiled hard to claim his first 6fa, while Najam scored a half century in our second innings as we got some much needed batting practice.

The LO4 season kicked off under perfect conditions at a freshly prepared Schmidt Oval, where Concordia OC took the field after losing the toss.
Livingston, fresh off a premiership, blew the cobwebs off with the new ball — though his first delivery ended up sailing over deep square leg! It got better quickly, with the SHOC skipper dismissed in his next over.
A few dropped chances gave SHOC a little breathing space, before Pramod struck gold with his first wicket for Concordia, while Babar bowled beautifully, keeping it tight and finishing with 4/18 to help wrap things up.

With the bat, Hitesh and Askar posted Old Concordians’ first 100 run partnership for the season, with Askar taking the lead with boundaries while Hitesh played the perfect support role. The pair put on 112 for the second wicket, setting up the 8 wicket win.
From conceding a boundary off the very first ball of the match to wrapping up the day with a dominant victory, it was an ideal start to the season.

The title defence of the newly promoted B2 begins with a small walk up Belair Road to Kingswood Oval to take on our closest rivals Unley. Last Friday marked the end of a memorable season with our presentation night. 2 flags were celebrated, while many milestones and awards were given out, and congratulations to all who received.

Our Spirit of Cricket Award has been renamed to the OCA Spirit of Cricket/Junaid Khan Shield in honour of our great mate, someone who displayed all traits of a worthy winner of the award.

A special mention to our Premiership Captain Bjorn Pederson who was recognised for breaking our clubs all time leading run scorer record this season, now sitting at 6,227 runs. Our Cricketer of the Year Award, the Nelson Zweck medal went to now back-to-back-to-back winner Jono Oliver after his spectacular year. The OCA Spirit of Cricket Award/Junaid Khan Shield was won by Najam Hassan, now a two time winner. Our Clubman of the Year/Rob Sellars shield was won by President Troy Pincin for the 5th successive year, and our Young Player of the Year Award was won by Sam Strelan.

Thankyou to Fettle for hosting the night and Jake Harris for helping organise the venue.

We look forward to 2025/26 after a great season which will hopefully set us up for more success in the future!

2 FLAGS 🏆🏆
On a beautiful weekend for cricket, the B3s lost the toss but were surprisingly sent in to bat by the Hope Valley skipper under sunny skies and on the best pitch of the Concordia square. Our plan was to bat our 80 overs, keep the bowlers in the field all day and amass something in the vicinity of 275 runs.

We couldn’t have got off to a better start, with the top 4 batsmen all making runs and combining for three 50 run partnerships, expertly held together by the experienced and patient Tim Kupke (72). The tea score of 2/117 was the perfect platform from which to build our total, with discontent starting to grow amongst the fielding side, before a mini collapse of 4/27 had the game poised at 6/197 with 17 overs remaining in the day.

It was all set up for whichever side wanted the ascendancy more, but after some recent grand final losses, Pederson (76*) and Casey (48*) were not going to let history repeat, taking the game away from the visitors with an unbeaten 118 run partnership, including 46 runs from the last 3 overs.

Day 2 presented Hope Valley with an even better deck to bat on, so the Old Concordians bowlers knew they had their work cut out to prise apart the batting lineup. Seemingly focussed more on the pitch than the ball, the batsmen struggled against the metronomic attack, ably supported by both the fielders and the boisterous home crowd, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Just like in the semi final, the visitors batted honourably but failed to last til tea, with the experienced Rehman taking 5/5 off 8 overs.

With the last wicket falling, caught Raschella bowled Najam, blending youth with experience as had been our philosophy all season, jubilant scenes erupted at Concordia Oval as the club secured its first two day premiership in 15 years.

LO5 were sent in at Gaza and a fast start was made by Jenke with 35. Hyams and Barker then combined for a 78 run partnership putting pressure on the opposition putting OC into a position of strength. Barker contributed 35 while Hyams anchored the innings with 58. Late hitting from Syed (26) got the total up to an extremely competitive 181. A fast start for Gaza had them 2/98 in the 17th before Janetzki took the wicket of the key batsmen launching a comeback. With the ball it was Westbrook leading the way with 3/28, in tandem with the economical Syed. Unfortunately some strong hitting from Gaza got them over the line in a close game. An extremely gallant and inspiring performance from the boys off the back of a difficult week.

At Concordia, late week rain had made curation difficult, so although 8 overs were bowled on Saturday, it soon became clear that the pitch was unsuitable for finals cricket and as such play was abandoned for the day.

Returning on Sunday for a 50 over game, Old Concordians won the toss and sent Golden Grove in, given the 10:30AM start meant there would be some early juice in the wicket. And didn’t the bowlers take advantage of the conditions, with Strelan again getting a wicket in the first over! From there, Rehman, Spencer and Oliver continued the tight lines against some blasé Brumbies batting, finding edges and dislodging bails at regular intervals as the visitors were dismissed for 39 in 26 overs.

If there were any doubts about the pitch, they were quickly dispelled by Oliver and Kupke, who chased down the total in 9 overs to book our spot in the grand final.

The feel good story was with LO6 with an amazing second innings comeback. In a low scoring game it was valuable contributions from our batsmen that set a platform for a bowlers. Jolly with 30 led the way while teen scores from Naeem, Junior Mirza and Junior Livingston put a score of 109 on the board. Potentially not enough, but in a finals game, it gave us a chance.

CORKINDALE, OLIVER, PEDERSON IN THE RUNS
On a warm autumnal day, B3s had been set 233 against the 2nd team on the ladder to keep their undefeated streak intact. A couple of early wickets gave Reynella hope, but the old guard of Jonathon “THE Jono” Oliver and Najam steadied the ship before tea was taken at 3/128. Oliver continued the assault after the interval, finishing on a well constructed 130 as he was well caught on the boundary, before Pederson and Casey saw the side to a 6 wicket victory.

After being dismissed for 259, we bowled 12 overs to stumps, highlighted by Henry Beazley’s first A grade wicket for the club as he skittled Reynella’s opening batsman for a pair, and Eamon’s first ever OC wicket with a diving caught and bowled.

Winning the toss and bowling, LO5 got off to a strong start with Janetzki rolling through the top order with 2 wickets. He was able to combine with Syed who took 4 through the middle, plus 2 each to Rehman and Mattner, while 4 Hyams gully catches ensured the total was restricted to just 126. A shaky start early with the bat was resurrected with a clutch Barker (41) and Parkinson (23) partnership. From joining at 4-35, the two put on an 80-run stand under pressure to get the score to 5/105 before 2 Rehman cuts through point sealed the match and most likely a finals birth for LO5.

Club icon Corkindale led the way to help LO6 set the side to a match winning total. Coming in at three the keeper/batter put an a 69 run partnership with Haider (38) for the 2nd wicket. Maxy pushed on and posted an anchoring 70 with late hitting from Naeem (28) once again getting us to an excellent first innings score of 186. With the ball it was Van Haren doing the damage, taking 4/22 of his 9 leading the side to a win which will essentially seal a top 4 birth for LO6 too.

Unfortunately a collapse after drinks led to an all out score of 137, with albeit some uneven bounce. In reply the Alligators chased down the total easily with aggressive batting but missed chances did prove costly. Only highlighted by an unlikely ‘no look’ runout from Westbrook via an incoming throw from Syed.

Fielding first in LO6 it was spin weapon Paasuke taking the first 3 wickets with figures of 3/21 of 9 including a stumping in partnership with Corkindale. Economical bowling from the attack meant 153 was needed to win but it was really only Naeem (46) that showed us resistance as we fell to a 37 run loss.

JOLLY’S HEROICS & BJ GOES BANG WITH ANOTHER TON
Having already claimed first innings points, B3 was looking to bat all day in the 39C weather, but plans quickly went awry with three dismissals. A stabilising partnership between Harris (37) and Pederson arrested the slide, before Spencer came in as he and the skipper put on 85 for the 8th wicket to take the innings past tea. Bjorn was the last wicket to fall, having finished on 155, which gave us 32 overs to chase the unexpected outright.

Same as last week, it was Strelan and Spencer who got the wickets tally ticking over. Ben was very economical (3/4 off 9) while Sam was unplayable at times, swinging the ball both ways and leaving batsmen shaking their heads as they trudged off. After LO5 won the toss and bowled first it was PAOC who made a fast start being 1/53 after 10. But main destroyed Askar was introduced to the attack and took 4/24 backed up by Van Haren and Hyams with 2 wickets each and an economical bowling performance kept the hosts to 9/152.

An opening stand of 44 between Hyams and Ghai put us in the box seat early but regular wickets falling after swung the momentum PAOCs way. To rebuild the innings it was Askar with 36 as the run chase got tight. 9 wickets down Jolly and Carter needed 13 of the last over. With 4 needed of the last ball Jolly pierced the outfielders at mid wicket and gave OC the win as he finished 27* with 5 boundaries. A crucial win which could help to seal a finals birth for LO5.

LO6 with the bat first unfortunately couldn’t quite get the total they needed. Corkindale (30) and Ali (30*) stabilised the innings through the middle but late hitting was needed which Farhan delivered. 50 of 35 with 4 sixes helped OC to 3/151. In reply Reynella proved to be too strong as they made the total inside 30 overs 3 wickets down.

JOLLY’S HEROICS & BJ GOES BANG WITH ANOTHER TON
Having already claimed first innings points, B3 was looking to bat all day in the 39C weather, but plans quickly went awry with three dismissals. A stabilising partnership between Harris (37) and Pederson arrested the slide, before Spencer came in as he and the skipper put on 85 for the 8th wicket to take the innings past tea. Bjorn was the last wicket to fall, having finished on 155, which gave us 32 overs to chase the unexpected outright.

Same as last week, it was Strelan and Spencer who got the wickets tally ticking over. Ben was very economical (3/4 off 9) while Sam was unplayable at times, swinging the ball both ways and leaving batsmen shaking their heads as they trudged off. Batting first in LO6 it was a relatively slow start at Webb Oval as we were 3/52 at 20 overs. But after that the foot hit the accelerator as Farhan blasted a 19 ball 50 as he scored 78 off just 31 with 7 sixes in that! He was very well assisted by Junaid (44 at a run a ball) and Corkindale (45*) leading to an excellent score of 5/214. An excellent bowling performance backed up the batting with spinner Paasuke being the star again with 3/12 helping the side to bowl Glenunga out for 105. A great win for LO6 and one that will help towards the finals chase!

It was a good toss to win for B3 on a windy Saturday afternoon, sending Trinity in on a spicy Concordia deck. In the very first over, bowling downwind Strelan bounced out the Trinity opener, to a fine catch by Spencer at fine leg. Benjamin then proceeded to dismiss the other opener next over, to be 2/3. From then on, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as Trinity were dismissed just after tea for 105, with both opening bowlers finishing with 4 dismissals, and Najam with 3 catches.

Small totals can be hard to chase, and at 2/32 with dynamic Oliver back in the shed, there were a few concerns in the changeroom. Fortunately, Pederson and Hassan combined for an unbeaten 107 run partnership to see the side to a first innings win with 80 overs to bat next week.

In LO5 bowling first it was the Gaza openers who got on top early. A lighting fast outfield got them away to a 91 run partnership before the first wicket fell. 3 wickets from Janetzki was able to pull the batters back to an extent but 233 was still able to be posted. A good start to the run chase from Hyams (22) and Jenke (46) gave OC hope as good running between the wickets got us off well. Unfortunately wickets probably fell too often through the middle, although shining star Max Parkinson put on a run a ball 39 with a great display of driving and cutting to hold the middle together. But it wasn’t to be as OC were bowled out for 168.

MONTY’S FIRST TON FOR OC
B3 Chasing 211 at Park 15 was definitely a doable task on a friendly deck. Monty joined Oliver at the crease early as the pair put on 117. Oliver played his usual style as he raced to 88. Monty and Najam then together put on 122 as the pair transcended past the total before tea. Najam was dismissed for a blazing 77 while Monty then takes over the show and makes a chance-less hundred with a brilliant display of patient batting plus pouncing when he needed to as well. Monty was dismissed for 129 while Raschella hit late with 48* to get the total past 400.

In LO5 skipper Pincin decided to bat first but unfortunately the Pincin formula was proven to be the successful route for victory as only Hitesh (48) troubled the scorers. Bowled out for 101 the bowlers went to work and got the game tight. Leading the attack was Strelan (4/21) helping to reduce the score to 9/101. Unfortunately the winning runs were hit in a nervous chase showing more runs were needed to defend the small total.

Batting first at Schmidt Oval it was Haider (57) and Hill (36) who got LO6 of to a flyer! A 90 run stand between the pair followed up by middle order hitting from Naeem (37) led to a score of 182. In response it was a complete bowling performance led by Junior Mirza (3/13 of 6). Unley were left at 9/147 seeing LO6 to victory and into the top 4 while LO5 are still equal top and another win for B3 could virtually seal them top spot!

LO6 batted first on a scorcher and fell to 4/52 but a clutch partnership of 77 from Junaid (51) and Farhan (50) steadied the ship and allowed dangerous dasher Junior Mirza to come in late and whack a season high 59. 7/229 was posted at an impressive rate of 5.7 and would always prove to be a tough total after the fielding sight sweltering in the heat for 40 overs. A shared effort with the ball including 2 wickets to Shayan, Sarfaraz and Ajay, plus Phil Paasuke taking his first wicket for the club in inexpensive figures of 1/11 from 5 meant the total was defended as Mawson lakes were bowled out for 140.

The Pincin Formula returned in LO5 this week as the skipper decided to send the visitors Gepps Cross in. A steady start was made with the bat until MOTM Askar tore the game open with 4/31 and helpful economical bowling from E Livingston and Van Haren kept the total to 9/153. In response a steady partnership from Jenke (22) and Ghai (24) got us off to a good start before Askar and Barker came in to do the bulk of the work. Askar scoring 72* with 9 fours and 1 six with Barks assisting with 35 saw us home pushing LO5 to equal top.

After 4 successful tosses to start the year, Pederson has fallen to 4 tosses loss in his last 4 as B3 were made to bowl first. On a flat pitch the bowlers were made to work early as only 1 wicket fell before tea. A great hundred from the PAOC opener anchored their innings but our economical lines held things up at other ends. 4/16 from 17 from Oliver headlined the day as PAOC set 8/210.

On a glorious Australia Day long weekend Saturday, the B3s outlasted a dour Marion to claim a 77 run victory. Although the Rams were never really in the hunt, wickets were hard to come by on a flat deck as the required run rate slowly climbed over the afternoon. All bowlers toiled hard, but it was B3 debutant Janetzki who troubled the batsmen the most, finishing with 5/28 and booking the team some late March action.

The LO6s started well against Flinders Uni away, with Babar promoted to opener and repaying the captain’s trust well with 33. Runs became hard to come by after drinks, but posting 9/117 was at least defendable. When Uni were 2/93, heads would normally sag but the spirited bowling attack took 6/22 to give their team a chance at victory, before going down by 2 wickets in the 31st over.

The LO5s had a day to forget at home, losing by 7 wickets to Golden Grove.

A run chase guided my Captain Ali (26*) saw LO6 make the total 7 down as the push for finals continues.
